Fairlawn Lutheran Church
Size: 10,000 sq. ft.Cost: $2,000,000
This growing Lutheran Congregation determined that the existing sanctuary was inadequate for the size of the membership and preferred to have a more ideal liturgical space. Education requirements were also mandatory.
Gathering a congregation before worship or in conjunction with education and fellowship required a space in the center of all the activities. The existing church was reorganized for a daily chapel and fellowship. The transition space for offices and the 6,400 square foot sanctuary were duplicated at the lower level for educational and committee meeting rooms. The compactness of design created the monolithic image that the Lutheran community envisioned. The juxtaposition of the two roofs is anchored at both ends with a gothic-like steel frame supporting a truss allowed east and southern lights to illuminate the entire interior. Narrow windows on three sides tempers the amount of colored light that penetrates the space.
