Blessed Sacrament Church
Size: 21,000 Sq. Ft.Budget: $2,955,000
Blessed Sacrament Parish, a growing congregation, desired to expand the present church facility. Preliminary studies indicated the existing structure built as a gym and renovated several times during the past three decades had major limitations. Therefore, the need to double the seating capacity initiated a new understanding of what options might be available while creating an ideal space for liturgical worship. The primary concern was that the parishioners desired to be in proximity to the altar. The Parish required more meeting and educational space to meet the current and future requirements of the various programs within the church. It was finally decided to reorganize the present church building as a community center and build a new church to seat 750.
Through detailed discussions, it was apparent that the entire membership now was focused on the location of the sanctuary, an ideal arrangement of seating reflecting liturgical celebrations. The final plan placed the sanctuary in the center of the entire structure with the altar as the focus. Complementing this arrangement the congregation was surrounded by a glass wall allowing light to penetrate the space in different intensities.
The existing church was renovated to accommodate a Daily Chapel and Eucharistic chapel as well as committee rooms and the early childhood program. A lounge adjacent to the gathering room provides an area for small meetings.
