Music and performance drove the design of this 9,000 sq. ft., 4 bedroom, lakefront home. The size and proportion of the spaces were dictated by the clients needs to house two 40 rank pipe organs (one English and one German) within the home as well as provide an appropriate sized space for holding private concerts. Because of sound, the spacious living areas are open to each other which further allows for gathering space during a performance. A steel frame with diagonal bracing was selected to meet the rigid construction requirements which then further acted as a design factor to defuse sound and reverberation and create a volumed space.
