PORTFOLIO

Richard Fleischman Architects have a whole range of architectural and town-planning projects on their curriculum. But, generally speaking, they have shown a marked propensity for either places of worship or education facilities (schools, museums, art galleries) and science buildings...

Space constructed for either religious or scientific purposes must, in some way, provide room for and mirror behavioral patterns, states of mind, activities and exptations which are embodied in well-defined and codified rituals; and this means that architecture must adapt to a pre-established functional scheme...

Intimate knowledge of the client's requirements is for Fleischman something more than just professional ethics: it is a design principle embodied in attention to detail...

Of course, this attitude runs through all the work carried out by Richard Fleishman Architects. The principle of directly confronting the either openly avowed or gently alluded to specification underpinning an architectural design is a constant both in project for providate houses and major urban development schemes.

    - Maurizzio Vitta, Richard Fleischman, Spaces to Be Shared (1996)

With over 40 years of practice and hundreds of completed projects throughout the United States, ranging from simple building renovations to complex mixed-use developments, many of which have received national or regional awards, our work may be classed as meeting a demand for excelence. Our projects are distinctly different from one another, each reflective of its own program, site, desig constraints and client expectations.

Where some of our designs have been applauded for being 'dignified', 'restrained' or 'sensitive to context', many others have earned the tag 'innovative', 'daring' or 'cutting edge'.
